Welcome — I’m So Glad You're Here
Taking the first step to begin therapy is a brave and meaningful decision. Whether this is your first time in therapy or you're returning after a break, I want you to know that you are welcome here. Starting this journey is an act of self-care, and I deeply honor your willingness to begin.
What to Expect in the First Session
Your first session is a time for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and begin to build a foundation of trust. There’s no pressure to share everything right away — therapy is a process, and there is no “right” way to begin. You are in charge of your story and your pace.
I understand that opening up can feel vulnerable, and it’s okay if you're not sure where to start. I, as your therapist, will guide the conversation gently and help create a space where you feel safe and supported.
Building Rapport Takes Time
The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of healing. Like any meaningful relationship, it takes time to build trust, comfort, and connection. Some sessions may feel easier than others, and that’s completely normal. Be patient with yourself and the process. I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Preparing for Your Sessions
To help you get the most out of therapy, consider these simple steps:
Set aside quiet time: Try to find a space where you can be fully present and free from distractions.
Reflect beforehand: Take a few moments before your session to check in with yourself. What emotions are you bringing into the room today? What would you like to explore?
Be open to the process: Therapy isn’t always linear. Some sessions might feel productive, while others might feel slower. Each one is valuable in its own way.
Since our sessions will be virtual, I recommend the following to help create a comfortable, effective experience:
Choose a quiet, private space where you won’t be overheard or interrupted.
Use headphones, if possible, for clearer sound and added privacy.
Make sure you have reliable internet, good lighting, and a stable place to sit so that I can see and hear you clearly.
Minimize distractions by silencing notifications and letting others know you’ll be unavailable during your session time.
These small adjustments can make a big difference in helping you feel grounded and fully present for your time in therapy.
The Work of Therapy Happens Between Sessions
While sessions are a powerful space for growth and insight, much of the healing happens between appointments — in your day-to-day reflections, choices, and awareness. To support this work:
I encourage you to get a journal.
Journaling can be a powerful tool to track your thoughts, emotions, and progress. It can help you process what comes up in therapy and deepen your self-understanding. You can bring insights from your journal into your sessions or simply use it as a private space to support your journey.
A Few More Things to Know
It’s okay to have questions. As your therapist, I am here to support you, and you’re welcome to ask anything about the process, expectations, or concerns you may have.
You don’t have to do this alone. Even if it’s hard to believe right now, healing is possible — and you are not alone in this work.
You are the expert on your own life. Therapy is not about fixing you — because you are not broken. It's about helping you reconnect with your inner wisdom, make sense of your experiences, and move toward the life you want.
I am honored to be part of your journey. The path ahead may have its challenges, but it also holds incredible potential for growth, self-compassion, and change.
Welcome — you’re exactly where you need to be.
